In partnership with award-winning environmental and development
photographer, Guy Stubbs, the Landmark Foundation is planning
a television serial, internet site, book and lecture series
telling how Africans, through their livelihoods, have embarked
on conservation of their environments.
There is concern that these highly effective conservation
stories aren’t being told as they don’t have
major money behind them. It creates an impression that only
major international institutions and governments are involved
in effective conservation. This is not true and thus major
conservation opportunities and partnerships are being missed.
The fundamental premise of this project it that local people
need to be given the credit and encouragement for their
conservation efforts, as the future of conservation across
the globe lies in the hands of local communities. The Landmark
Foundation believes that visual images are the most effective
means of cross-cultural communications. The visual images
this project will provide, will be the conduit for lessons
learnt across Africa, and will hopefully make major organisations,
governments and donors take note and support these local,
hands-on and effective conservationists.
